Shop Women-Made Gift Picks with The Feminist Book Club!
Renee M. Powers is lifelong Midwesterner, an Aries, an ISFJ, a 3 on the enneagram, a Ph.D. dropout, and a former theatre kid. She’s been obsessed with feminist theory and feminist literature since her first Women’s Studies class in 2005. Feminist Book Club is inspired by Renee’s penchant for being an early adopter of subscription boxes, podcasts, and online communities. She combined these interests with her love of reading, her passion for toppling the kyriarchy, and the desire to lead a team of people much smarter than her. Now Feminist Book Club is the premier online hub for intersectional readers around the world. Renee loves memoirs, iced coffee, bold lipstick, and Lady Gaga. (Sounds like our type of woman!) When not working on Feminist Book Club, she can be found trying new breweries and coffee shops, cheering on Notre Dame women’s basketball, playing Pokémon Go, or trying and failing to teach her retired racing greyhound how to fetch. Or reading. Obviously.
“It was important to me to choose items that support women-owned businesses, specifically our BIPOC makers,” said Renee. “It's important that we buy the change we want to see.” Scroll down to use your purchasing power to shop Renee’s picks from our Digital Marketplace!
Why is shopping local important to you?
I'm a local business. I got my start in Minneapolis and am so grateful for the community that has been with me every step of the way. I know that my purchasing power is going directly to the maker, to the person I'm connecting with, and that matters.

What are your favorite kind of gifts to give?
I love to gift a little something that brightens your day: a perfectly timed card, a "thinking of you" nail polish, a cartoon character of you as a super hero. Something that will make you smile and remind you to look up from your work and remember that life is weird and fun and that you are loved.
I believe in encouraging the MN love affair early (and btw is it just me or is everyone's feed full of babies right now?!). This onesie is adorable and honestly just looks super comfortable. Do they come in adult sizes?!
I've done the bread baking and the interior decorating and even some remodeling. I'm ready to try my hand at some new crafting options and I love all of the different choices B&D has. Obviously I'd choose the Minnesota state outline, but there are dozens to choose from.
I'm a sucker for subversive art. The makers will do custom colors and quotes for you, and each is made-to-order, just for you, just like your favorite sandwich shop. But with more spice.
