Danielle Steer wants you to vote
Danielle Steer is a Minneapolis entrepreneur champion, a changemaker, and the Managing Director of Lunar Startups, a startup accelerator for underestimated founders based in St. Paul, MN. Minneapolis Craft Market is proud to be a company in Lunar Startups #Cohort3! It’s no suprise to us that Danielle picked items related to voting and making our community a better place.
Danielle said, "Fall is my favorite season. This fall also coincides with the historical 2020 election. A lot of the energy in my family is dedicated to our role during this election season, both locally and nationally, and Minneapolis Craft Market is playing an important part in that process. I've been seeking out makers, products, and creatives who contribute to that energy!”
Why is shopping local important to you?
Our family believes that how and where we spend money is the manifestation of our values. Shopping local is one of the many ways we vote with our pocketbooks.
What are your favorite kind of gifts to give?
I really love giving gifts that have a story and more layered meaning. For example, Fair Anita is a social enterprise that designs accessories while empowering women around the world through fair trade jobs. Every gift comes with information about the women that make the item. Those stories and deeper meaning make the gifts that much more valuable and meaningful.
I mean, anything Larissa Loden makes is going to be high quality, poignant, and gorgeous. These are especially timely, functional, and perfect for my many zoom calls.
I didn’t grow up learning how to say no. I feel like my 20s were about learning that "no" was an option. And now in my 30s, I'm learning how to say no so that I can be a better professional, mother, friend, and human. This pin is a great reminder there is power in saying no, especially when no means yes to your values.
What can I say, I'm grieving the loss of this great leader and feeling grateful that my workplace is safer and more inclusive because she not only believed in equality, she fought for it.
When I look at this pin, I can hear the mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and sisters of my family.
This year, I'm learning how to take better care of myself. In the midst of 2020, this seems increasingly important.
